Business in Kenya: An Environmental Scan for Foreign Investors

Abstract


With increasing globalization, many companies have seen the need to take their businesses abroad. At the same time, existing transnational companies are looking for fertile grounds all over the world. Many of these companies have since set their eyes on Kenya and with the country becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investors, it is important that these businesses have a better understanding of the business culture in Kenya. This paper sets out dissect the country, laying out some less known fact so that foreign companies and expatriates coming to the country would be better prepared. To accomplish this, the paper begins by arguing that Kenya is a good place for business, and then addresses important elements such as culture, trade and global cooperation, existing business structures, minority dynamics, the social importance of technology, individualism/collectivism, and other challenges of doing business in Kenya. The paper ends by concluding that Kenya is a good place for foreign businesses to invest.
